PORTFOLIO

 PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

As a future psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I aim to offer quality care, improve patient safety, and reduce treatment costs. To achieve this, I will embrace patient-centeredness and holistic care. Patient-centeredness and holistic care will enable me to address patients’ needs. By so doing, I will achieve better patient outcomes and reduce hospitalizations and complications. This will allow me to reduce treatment costs (Frisch & Rabinowitsch, 2019). I will collaborate with other healthcare providers to adopt the best evidence-based practices that optimize the quality of healthcare services provided to patients. Practical interdisciplinary cooperation encourages the fruitful exchange of knowledge and concepts that serve as the foundation for evidence-based practice. Furthermore, I will use therapeutic communication to engage patients and their families in the treatment process. Developing close ties with patients enhances therapeutic interactions and increases compliance probability. As such, patient-centeredness and comprehensive care are attained. I will embrace the provisions of various nursing theories and ethics in my practice. Notably, Roy’s Adaptation Model of Nursing will guide my routine. This theory will enable me to understand the impact of environmental stimuli on patients (Younas & Quennell, 2019). Additionally, the theory will allow me to use the nursing process when delivering holistic care. Nursing ethics will enable me to uphold professionalism in my practice. Justice will allow me to discharge non-discriminative services, whereas beneficence and non-maleficence will help me to apply evidence-based practices that improve patient outcomes. Autonomy will ensure I engage patients and their families in the treatment process. I will also endeavor to maintain professional competency via continuous medical education. Competency is critical to quality services, patient safety, and reduction of treatment costs.

 PERSONAL GOALS

Short Term Goals
  • I want to become a certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner after completing my master’s program.
  • Provide patient-centered and holistic services in my current workplace.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders to formulate policies that advocate for the well-being of patients with mental health problems.
Long Term Goals
  • To hold administrative positions in the healthcare industry, where I will transform the provision of nursing services.
  • To enroll in a doctoral program to allow me to further my education, gain pertinent information and abilities, and boost my autonomous practice as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner
  • To collaborate with other stakeholders from different departments to improve the quality of healthcare services.

 SELF ASSESSMENT

Nurses play a significant role in patient care. Currently, I am working at Columbus Spring East. This has helped me to gain relevant knowledge and skills about psychiatric mental health. I provide patient-centered services, including education, formulating individualized interventions, and safe medication administration. Additionally, I work in concert with interdisciplinary team members to develop evidence-based practices that promote the well-being of patients. This role has enabled me to embrace the nursing process to provide patient-centered holistic care. I enrolled in the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner master’s program back in 2020 because I wanted to offer autonomous primary care to patients from various socio-economic backgrounds. This master’s program has equipped me with pertinent knowledge in research, holistic care, and patient-centeredness. Research skills will enable me to uphold evidence-based practice in my routine. Holistic care and patient-centeredness will allow me to improve the quality of healthcare services. Roy’s Adaptation Model of Nursing will allow me to discharge quality patient-centered healthcare services. Roy’s Model will help other nurses and me to embrace the nursing process in patient care. This will ensure that adequate patient follow-up is achieved. Furthermore, the nursing process will improve the quality of care by advocating for patient-centeredness.
