1. How to make informed decisions on nursing practice and patient outcomes on a global basis. In addition, state how you will apply what you have learned in this course to your upcoming practicum experience. 2. Describe how one will apply content from NR506NP to the upcoming clinical courses.
This class has been both instructive and eye-opening regarding the role that nurses
may play in politics. The topics I acquired over the course of eight weeks were highly
enlightening and fascinating. I truly focused on some of the difficulties that healthcare is
experiencing today during this healthcare policy class. I learned how vital healthcare
policy is in implementing change in the healthcare system and how nurses have to
influence public policy to serve patients and communities better. This new information
has given me a different perspective on making better judgments to influence improved
patient outcomes. As I continue my path as a new nurse practitioner, the principles I
learned will assist me in becoming a better leader. While continuing my study, it is
crucial to note that health care policy can be used to modify healthcare policy at the
facility level as well as reforming healthcare legislation (Benton, 2012). A master's
prepared nurse will be required to engage in activities that generate new policies that
shape the nursing profession to have this kind of effect (Berwick, et al., 2018). I learned
in healthcare policy class about studying new policy implementation and putting all of
the knowledge acquired into practice to build new concepts to apply to the practicum.
Because nurse leaders may promote improved quality, safe, efficient, and cost-effective
care through the implementation of healthcare policy, leadership and advocacy play a
vital part in properly addressing global concerns. Nurses can impact policymaking by
joining healthcare groups, using their right to vote, and reaching out to policy
stakeholders. This class has demonstrated that well-informed, master's-prepared
nurses will facilitate the establishment of new policies. Positive communication
strategies and the usage of social media platforms to reach an audience are required to
be an effective change leader (Benton, 2012). One valuable lesson I learned in this
course that I can apply in the future as a future family nurse practitioner is my
responsibility to influence positive change in the nursing profession and the importance
of participation in the healthcare system to form and promote health policy. I hope to
make a slight difference in what matters: improving patient care and promoting better
health. These ideas and knowing how to influence the correct politician to push your
policy concern are crucial.
