Strategic Planning – Evaluating Organizational Culture for Nursing Practice Intervention Integration

A discussion with my preceptor revealed various potential problems with organizational culture. To begin with, the healthcare facility lacks a collectivistic culture. Healthcare providers do not prioritize a multidisciplinary approach in healthcare delivery. Consequently, this practice may impede the implementation of my evidence-based practice. Furthermore, the facility does not have standardized procedures and protocols that guide its routine. This has lowered the quality of care because their activities are not harmonized. Additionally, despite having an electronic health record (EHR) system and barcodes, healthcare providers have not fully embraced these technologies.

The strategic plan for implementing my nursing practice intervention addresses various aspects. Firstly, the success of the intervention is dependent on interdisciplinary collaboration. Healthcare providers will be educated and trained on the importance of collaboration and its strategies (Dagne & Beshah, 2021). Each interdisciplinary team member will be educated on the key role they play in the project implementation. This will promote care coordination and collaboration when implementing the capstone project. Secondly, the interdisciplinary team members will formulate a standardized fall risk assessment tool. This tool will be developed by embracing the provisions of existing protocols, such as the Morse Fall Scale (Neugebauer et al., 2021). Also, the tool will be individualized to address the unique needs of the healthcare facility. All healthcare providers involved in patient care will be trained on how to interpret the tool. Thirdly, interdisciplinary team members will be trained on the appropriate use of healthcare technology. In this context, barcode technology and EHR systems are present at the facility and are relevant for the capstone project. The training will take one month. After that, refresher training will be done monthly.
