How the Concept of Health has Changed Overtime

The concept of health has continuously evolved through the years. In the 19th and 20th centuries, health was defined as the nonexistence of disease. The concept of health was based on sanitary conditions. The 20th century saw the dawn of vaccination. The concept of health then became based on prevention. These changes led to the formation of the World Health Organization in 1948. The organization’s goal was to promote health globally (Gostin et al., 2018). It also expanded the notion of health to include things like an individual’s mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. The nurse’s role in health promotion is crucial (Barreto et al., 2019). It involves determining the requirements of a person or community, taking into account education, locating resources, and assessing and implementing various initiatives to help reduce premature deaths and lower overall costs. Using Evidence-Based Practice, the nurse can initiate reforms to enhance processes and increase patient safety.
