Considerations of use and dosing in specific specialty populations to consider children, adolescents, elderly, pregnancy, suicidal behaviors, etc.
The dosage given among children within the age bracket of 12 to 17 years is given as 3mg. It is also not recommended for elder patients who have been diagnosed with dementia related psychosis since it increases the risk of death. as a result of heart failure. The dosage among adults with schizophrenia is given as 6mg while the maximum dose for patients with schizoaffective disorder is given as 12mg (Patel et al., 2020). It is also taken either with or without food. In patients with renal impairment a dosage of 1.5mg is given on daily basis and a maximum of 3mg is only recommended. There have been no studies done on patients with hepatic impairment. Dose adjustment is also necessary among elderly patients where the maximum dosage administered per day is 3mg.
