This class has taught me the importance of a creating therapeutic environment for a better patient

outcome. I have learned that the most important way to gain the trust of your patient is through

communication. Communication is an important language to can also be established through a

nonverbal form. In the nursing field, nonverbal communication involves many things such as maintaining

eye contact with patients, especially about their care, and it tells them you have their attention, (Frank et

al., 2020). I know that while I build my nursing career as a patient mental health professional (PMHNP),

will help me provide quality care for my patients by understanding them better. Understanding my

patients will give me better information about them and help with providing quality care, which can be

in the form of observation and assessment of my patients. This class has equipped me to be a better

healthcare professional.

The week 3 post and other discussions have improved the further understanding of competency 1.2. the

week has made me better understand Competency 1.2. I was able to understand and discuss how

important competency is in therapeutic communication and how to avoid the pitfall of not establishing

therapeutic alliances
