Professionalism and Social-Media Social media is taking over as the means for communication as the world moves away from the traditional mainstream media. Research indicates that, in most professions, the hiring team scrutinizes the applicants' activities on social media. Some people have failed to secure jobs because of their social media activities. In the nursing profession, privacy and confidentiality is critical. Additionally, nurses and healthcare professionals must be cautious of what they post on social media and the kinds of interactions they have. Various unethical and inappropriate conduct on social media can create legal problems for healthcare practitioners and nurses. After reviewing my social media profiles, posts, and conversations, I have realized that some things I said and posted can create legal problems for me. According to Whitney, S. (2018), social media platforms give nurses and the public a space to air their views and opinions regarding various things in multiple ways. Various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter (now X), Instagram, and other platforms allow nurses to conversate with one another. Sometimes, when airing our opinions, we might be conversing with patients without knowing. After reviewing my social media profiles, I have realized that I once posted about my patients and colleagues. Although I did not disclose any private information on social media, I discussed a case I was handling with complete strangers on social media. Although the conversation started as an innocent engagement, I could not take control of the direction that the conversation took. Based on the professional standards of nursing practice, discussing an ongoing case is illegal and punishable by law. Although I deleted these posts, I realize it was wrong to discuss such on social media because my post invited opinions from unlicensed people
