Theoretical Framework or Models to Guide in Implementation of EBP
The chosen theoretical model is the adaptation model of nursing. The model was developed by Callista Roy and explores the dissemination of nursing services. According to the model, an individual comprises interrelated aspects that equilibrate between different stimuli (Younas & Quennell, 2019). An individual interacts with the environment perpetually. According to the model, human beings are holistic and adapt differently to environmental stimuli. The model considers the environment to be a factor that impacts human development, growth, and behavior (Younas & Quennell, 2019). Accordingly, individuals are expected to adapt accordingly to differently to various stimuli. The model considers focal stimuli as those that necessitate prompt attention, whereas residual stimuli are those without a consequential impact (Younas & Quennell, 2019). The model further argues that the ability to adapt to stimuli determines an individual’s health.
The model identifies various adaptive modes and the nursing process. Firstly, the physiological-physical process explores biological and physical factors that impact the overall well-being of an individual (Marudhar & Josfeena, 2019). Secondly, the self-concept process explores the relevance of self-identity and accountability. Thirdly, the role process explores the unique societal roles accomplished by each person (Marudhar & Josfeena, 2019). Fourthly, interdependence explores the relevance of interpersonal relations. The nursing process directs nurses to assess, diagnose, formulate and implement a care plan and exhaust the addictiveness of an intervention (Younas & Quennell, 2019).
The adaptation model of nursing relates to the topic of interest: venous thromboembolisms ins the ICU. An understanding of the adaptive nodes will allow nurses to conduct risk stratification and ultrasound screening. Also, the nursing process will enable nurses to formulate and implement pertinent pharmaceutical venous thromboembolism prophylaxis. Furthermore, the nursing process will promote the success of ultrasound screening and risk stratification.
