Disease Processes from Nursing Perspective
Disease processes present a complex issue that can be challenging to disentangle and provide a timely response. The ability to identify and anticipate disease processes is a vital skill that allows nurses to affect public health on a global scale positively. However, each nursing process is a highly specific set of procedures that requires a multitude of skills, both professional and social. In a single day, a nurse may encounter patients that require entirely different skills and knowledge to successfully treat them, making flexibility and an extensive knowledge base mandatory for this career. In each patient case, it is essential to consider all sources that affect the health of individuals and the public as well. Each disease presents a unique challenge that consists of both individual- and disease-specific factors.
I have learned that a nurse must be able to act on the fly depending on the presented data while continuously assessing patients’ status to detect any changes that may indicate other mechanisms of a disease in time. This course has revealed how nurses contribute a good quality of care. While moving forward, I will further develop my analytical ability to ensure that my knowledge will continue to expand alongside my practical skills. A nurse treats a patient with all their complex health factors, not a single disease. It is mandatory to seek new ways of helping patients by applying knowledge on diseases and their processes. Providing care is more than simply treating symptoms, it is an overarching goal that covers many tasks from varied fields of study. In conclusion, the complexity of disease processes requires a nurse to be knowledgeable, empathetic and inquiring in order to provide the best possible care to their patients.
