Does the theory contribute to the discipline of nursing? In what way?

            “Virginia Henderson’s Need Theory is applicable to many disciplines of nursing with various scopes of practice” (Rose, 2017, p.5). Utilizing Henderson’s theory allows the nurse to promote health and independence level of the patient (Rose, 2017).  Her theory developed a basic core concept for the nurse. The definition of nursing and the Need Theory formed a framework for nursing to follow for basic patient care.

            While there are more complex nursing theories related to patient care, each nurse can go back to the basic concept of Henderson’s theory. The foundation Virginia Henderson developed for a nurse is a major strength in her theory. She developed the basic building blocks for patient care, which is still utilized today.
