Regular Physical Exercise in Middle-Aged Adults

Regular physical exercise and activity are important in middle-aged adults. Regular exercises improve health capabilities and have positive psychological outcomes such as improved management of depression and anxiety (Cho & Kim, 2019). Improved health capabilities reduce and help manage at-risk chronic health issues. The two at-risk chronic health issues that can be prevented and managed with regular physical exercises and activity are Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and stroke.

Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic condition that is characterized by elevated levels of blood sugar in the bloodstream, a heightened resistance to insulin, and a lowered volume of insulin in the body. It was estimated that over 37.3 million, or 11.3% of the U.S population, had diabetes in 2019 (American Diabetes Association (ADA), 2022). T2DM makes up almost 95 per cent of diabetes cases in the U.S. Also, stroke is a health condition resulting from reduced blood flow to the brain. Over 3%, approximately 7 million people of the U.S population above 20 years, have suffered or are at risk of stroke, with an estimated 795,000 new and recurrent cases annually (Saini et al., 2021). Stroke accounts for 140,000 yearly deaths, making it a leading cause of death in the U.S. Hire our assignment writing services if your assignment is devastating you.

T2DM and stroke’s high prevalence are due to increased inactivity and lack of awareness. Health promotion is needed to manage and control the prevalence of T2DM and stroke across the population. The best health promotion measures are to employ social media and audio and visual media, including TV and radio promotion campaigns for daily exercises and physical activities focusing on inactivity and lifestyle choices as major risk factors for T2DM and other chronic diseases and the benefits of physical exercises and activities. The recommended activities during the campaign would include taking brisk walks, muscle-strengthening activities, yard gardening, biking, and cardio dances.
