How United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)’s Mission and Vision Enable It to Contribute to Public Health and Safety Improvements

The mission statement of UNICEF is to achieve a unification of children around the world by empowering them with knowledge so they can change their own destinies. The organization’s vision statement is “to create a world where the rights of every child are realized” (UNICEF, n.d.). These statements summarize the goals of UNICEF in reaching out throughout the world with an impact on the lives of children. The mission and vision statements indicate the purpose and goals of UNICEF are ensuring that children, regardless of their location and where they come from ethnically and racially, are protected from conflict and violence, have access to quality education, health care, food, water, and shelter (UNICEF, n.d.). As a part of the UN, UNICEF’s mission and vision statements have guided its operations and enabled the organization to contribute to the achievement of the UN’s global goals on health and food security and the protection of children’s rights.

UNICEF’s mission and vision statements have guided the organization’s campaigns throughout the U.S. and the countries it operates in. UNICEF has partnered with other organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Gavi the Vaccine Alliance, The Global Fund, the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation, and the World Health Organization (WHO), among other international and local organizations to promote childhood immunization around the world. An example of a campaign of UNICEF guided by its mission and vision is the Child health and survival campaign, which seeks to ensure that every child in every community can thrive. This is a drive towards access to COVID-19 vaccines and those of other preventable and treatable diseases.
