Is the theory relevant socially and cross-culturally? Explain.

There is no literature found connecting Virginia Henderson’s work to social or culture aspects of the individual. Henderson’s theory is relevant for every patient no matter the cultural or social background. She did not research the different cultures; however she just solely focused on patient needs as a whole. Instead, Henderson described her findings to help improve the patient’s health (or die peacefully) and strive for patient independence in activities of daily living (Davidson, 2013). She focused on creating a core concept for the nurse-patient relationship and put all social and culture factors aside.

This is both a weakness and strength in Henderson’s theory. The weakness is some religions or ethnicities do not want certain procedures done. So, we have to be aware of these factors and ensure to discuss certain procedures with the patient. A strength is Henderson’s theories provides a solid core for nurse fundamentals and defines the nursing role.
