Motivations and Support Resources for Pursuing a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) at Chamberlain University
Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) are integral to community wellness. FNP certifications equip nurses with specialized skills to provide primary healthcare to persons of all ages. This makes FNPs relevant in all clinical settings. My aspirations to enrol in a master’s degree, specifically to pursue an FNP, were informed by my desire to impact disadvantaged populations positively by acting as a bridge between them and equitable, high-quality, and safe care. Disadvantaged communities, such as ethnic minority groups and older adults, are disproportionately affected by traditional problems such as access to healthcare. With my focus centred on helping these populations, I believe I may make a difference in alleviating their suffering. My decision to pursue FNP was also motivated by my desire to expand my knowledge base on aspects of health and wellness. As an FNP, I will be able to inspire communities to be better accountable in taking care of their wellness.
Chamberlain University provides an optimum learning environment for all nurses. The Center for Academic Success (CAS), the university library, and the professors are three of the most valuable resources provided by the institution that support the MSN program. The library provides multiple textbook resources and other reading materials that are valuable for knowledge expansion. The professors and instructors at Chamberlain are easily accessible and always willing to help learners understand problematic concepts. CAS provides one-on-one tutoring and can help learners tackle course-specific problems. These resources will be valuable in the entirety of my educational journey at the institution.
Self-care is central to all efforts targeted at educational success. One of the self-care strategies that I will employ during my schooling journey at Chamberlain is adequate sleep. Sleep has a profound effect on physical and mental wellness. Adequate sleep enhances concentration and energy levels required for the learning process (Mehta, 2022). Another self-care strategy I intend to employ is regular exercise. Regular exercise can help boost mood, reduce stress, and improve overall wellness (Redondo-Flórez et al., 2022). With regular exercise, I will be able to concentrate fully on my studies and sleep adequately.
The resources available at Chamberlain are adequate to support my self-care management. The abundance of walkways and tracks makes it easier to exercise. Additionally, the presence of sporting arenas and a working and fully equipped gym makes it flexible for me to engage in any form of sporting and exercise activities. For adequate sleep, I will also have to maintain accountability in ensuring an optimum sleep environment. The presence of distractors like television in the sleeping area may considerably reduce sleep latency. Additionally, using phones just before sleeping may also lower the quality of sleep. By maintaining good sleep hygiene, I believe I will be able to sleep optimally.
