NURS 8210 Week 11 Discussion The Value of Nursing Informatics and Project Management for Nursing Practice What are some other areas where Nursing Informatics is important as a discipline?
Nursing informatics (NI) is a specialty practice that focuses on the impact of clinical information systems on healthcare (ANA, 2015). NI integrates aspects of nursing science and data science intersecting at multiple levels with the patient, team, organization, community, and populations while expanding to State, National, and Global levels. Nursing informatics is operationalized in healthcare practice through “current state” assessments at these various levels and the managerial goal of process improvements to enhance clinical safety and quality, workplace culture, and patient experience.
How might Nursing Informatics align with technology? Explain how it is more than data analysis and collection in today’s practice. Be specific and provide examples.
Healthcare is a complex adaptive structure. The people who work in healthcare have individual behaviors as well as collective behaviors. NI aligns with technology in the healthcare workforce to bring about stable behaviors in multiple settings. For example, the implementation of automated hand hygiene technology can be used to provide infection control feedback to healthcare workers. Health 4.0 is not only meant to improve our efficiency and effectiveness in healthcare but to assist in creating autonomous and smart industrial operations. Healthcare processes have multiple interdependent components and their variability needs to be evaluated and continually monitored as standards of care and policies are implemented and evolved.
