Nursing-Issue and Solution to Evidence-based Nursing Practice What is the main issue for your organization in addressing a solution to evidence-based nursing practice? Discuss what might be the first step in addressing and resolving this issue. Note: Nursing-Issue and Solution to Evidence-based Nursing Practice Hi, I work as a utilization review nurse, the main issue we have is short staffing. It’s hard to find nurses with utilization review experience.UR nurses should have basic computer skills and should be able to quickly adapt to the changes that happen on mostly on monthly basis.
Nursing-Issue and Solution to Evidence-based Nursing Practice
The main issue for my organization in addressing a solution to evidence-based nursing practice is short staffing. The effective operation of a healthcare facility relies on enough staff to complete various tasks (Ashe, 2018). The application of evidence-based practice requires safe nurse staffing, which includes ensuring that there is a fair number of nurses available at all times in the healthcare facility. This is in addition to equipment with an appropriate mix of skills, education, and experience to ensure that the needs of the patient are met and that the working conditions and environment support staff to provide quality care (Lasater, 2021). Healthcare organizations can only offer quality care if they can handle operation costs, including purchasing the medicine administered to patients and paying healthcare providers. Therefore, it is vital to ensure that there is enough staff in the utilization review department to confirm whether a patient’s insurance company will offer appropriate financial coverage for the medical services provided. Unfortunately, our organization continues to experience short staffing in the utilization review department because few nurses have experience in utilization review.
The first step in addressing and resolving the issue is training other nurses on how to complete the tasks of a utilization review nurse. The most important thing is to ensure that nurses are equipped with basic computer skills and can quickly adapt to regular changes in the healthcare setting. The training program may include a short course that contains tests to assess the nurse’s understanding of what they are taught and a certificate at the end of the course to encourage participation. The organization may promise a salary increase or additional incentives for nurses who take the course. According to Khan et al. (2018), incentives and salary increases are the most effective strategies an organization can use to encourage employees to take a specific course of action.
