Role of nurse leaders in Conflict Management
Nurse leaders have a critical role in conflict management. They can spearhead the resolution of conflicts within their teams that may distract the team cohesion (Ibrahim et al., 2020). To solve the conflict, I will talk to both nurses at the same time and also individually. The first step will be to identify the conflict (Griffin, 2016). I will allow both parties to say their side of the story without interrupting them. The second step will be to establish a common goal for both parties without me taking sides. This common goal will help to resolve the issues affecting these nurses. The next step would be to discuss how this goal will be met. During the meeting, I will inform the nurses of how we will meet the goal. I will allow them to release the conflict. After this step, we will have a discussion and develop a common plan together. Collaboration is important in conflict resolution (Moeta & Du Rand, 2019). I will counsel the nurses and emphasize the importance of teamwork and cohesion in enhancing patient-centered care. I will allow them to apologize to each other to create equity.
Finally, after agreeing on a solution, I will give each party responsibility in conflict resolution. I will document this conflict resolution in the incident reporting group. I will document the resolutions by these two parties so that when another similar conflict occurs, they will be held responsible. If I do not resolve this conflict, I will refer this case to my supervisor, who will deal with this issue. The supervisor will handle this case and give out any punishment they feel is relevant.
