Topic 2 DQ2: How does the philosophy of ethical decision making have an effect on our everyday lives? As a student, what can you do to ensure you maintain academic honesty throughout your graduate academic career?
The philosophy of ethical decision making plays an important role to our personal morals and virtuous character traits. It has a
tremendous effect on our everyday lives in multiple ways. There may be more than a thousand situations in the course of a day that we
are internally asking question about the ethic in our own decision making.
It’s not always easy being ethical minded. However, it is vital to one’s character. We live with a typical truth: all that we say and do
represents a choice, and how we choose will affect us for the rest of our natural born lives. Choosing to make an ethical decision
requires the capacity to settle on qualifications between competing choices. It requires mindful training to the idea, issues, and
concerns of our actions. Our personal morals will often make an appeal to our conscious and justify our decisions. Are the ethical
decision we are making right or wrong or whether our activities are correct or off-base. It’s always lingering as an inner concern to
honesty, integrity, and compassion (Hanson, n.d.).
As a graduate student of psychology, I can be mindful of the academic policies that are emplaced. I can learn appropriate research
methods in psychology and understanding the academic guidelines. I can report the unethical actions of other student in my goal to
maintain academic honesty. Most importantly I can do what is “right” as a student.
