Use evidence-based practice to guide clinical reasoning and clinical judgment as a basis for nursing decision-making.

The course has helped me understand the role of the nurse in the development of evidence as well the application of such evidence to guide my daily practice, including how to make judgments as well as make decisions informed by data rather than personal biases.

Collaborate in healthcare delivery systems settings for improved patient outcomes.

Interprofessional collaboration is essential in ensuring a culture of quality and safety in care delivery (Wei et al., 2019). The opportunities provided by the course include practicum hours and working with different healthcare professionals in different settings. I now understand how to communicate effectively and work with other healthcare professionals to deliver quality care.

Demonstrate principles of professional identity and professionalism for the nurse within the context of regulatory and practice standards.

Professionalism in nursing goes beyond the delivery of care to patients to how one relates with the patient (Pullen, 2021). It is defined by the norms and values of the nursing profession. For example, honesty, fidelity, trust, empathy, and, most importantly, discipline in practice.

Analyze agencies that influence the provision of nursing care in the healthcare system.

I have understood the role of nursing agencies such as the American Nurses Association (ANA) as well as other specialty-specific professional organizations. Such organizations work for the best of nurses, including supporting research and furthering nursing education.

Formulate decisions based on the legal and ethical underpinnings that improve healthcare.

I understand that nursing decisions can create a conflict between the legality and the ethics of the decisions made. This course has helped me understand how to consider both legal and ethical perspectives in all decisions I make.
