Write a reflection journal (250-300 words) to outline what has been discovered about your professional practice, personal strengths and/or weaknesses, and additional resources that could be introduced in a given situation to influence optimal outcomes. Each week there will be a specific focus to use in your reflection. Integrate leadership and inquiry into the current practice. Please make sure to address all areas in your writing.
A Reflection on New Practice Approaches
I have discovered that professional nursing practice requires nurses to demonstrate and uphold various aspects. They should be compassionate and caring. This will enable them to provide patient-centered nursing care. Compassion and care will enable them to apply the nursing process effectively in their practice. Also, nurses should embrace ethical values when interacting with patients, their colleagues, and other healthcare providers. Nurses should maintain professional competency by participating in continuous medical education and training activities. Furthermore, nurses should collaborate with other interdisciplinary team members to promote evidence-based practice.
An evaluation of my strengths revealed that I am cautious, methodical, research-oriented, and orderly. I plan adequately and schedule my daily tasks. Planning and scheduling enable me to remain focused and complete tasks within the stipulated timeframe. Furthermore, I embrace research in my practice. I believe that nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team should research comprehensively to promote evidence-based practice. Orderliness enables me to be accountable for all of my tasks and decisions. Also, it has enabled me to remain objective when interacting with my colleagues in group discussions and other group work tasks.
Additional human and financial resources should be introduced to promote evidence-based practice in nursing (both academia and healthcare settings). Firstly, adequate allocation of resources will enable nurses and other healthcare providers to collaborate and research to identify the best current evidence-based practices (EBP). Both human and monetary resources are required to implement this EBP. For instance, the use of technology such as smart infusion pumps to mitigate medication errors requires the acquisition of hardware, software, and training of nurses (Michalek & Carson, 2020). Accordingly, financial resources will promote EBP in academia by sponsoring research activities and implementing new programs and curricula.
