Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflective Journal
Nurses should demonstrate appropriate leadership skills in the workplace. These skills will enable them to interact effectively with their colleagues and patients. Furthermore, these skills enable nurses to spearhead various initiatives and influence their colleagues to fulfil organizational goals and objectives. As such, leadership skills optimize the work environment, improve workflow, improve the quality of care and patient experiences, and minimize healthcare costs. Examples of these skills include open communication, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence. Appropriate leadership will enable nurses to leverage economic models to introduce evidence-based practices that reduce treatment costs. Economic models evaluate the impact of an intervention on healthcare costs (Jones, 2023). These models enable nurse leaders to adopt the best initiatives in the workplace.
Self-evaluation revealed that I embrace professional socialization and mentorship. Professional socialization has enabled me to adopt key nursing professional skills to promote my identity. Furthermore, it has enabled me to adapt to my professional role as a nurse. I am dedicated to providing quality care. On the other hand, mentorship enables me to empower and guide nursing students and other training. Notably, I enable them to understand their unique roles as nurses and the relevance of continuous medical education to their nursing profession. During the mentorship, I acknowledge that nursing students and other trainees are autonomous individuals (Regiscollege.edu, n.d.). This enables me to have constructive interactive sessions with my mentees. Further evaluation revealed that I have limited public speaking skills. I will address this weakness by continuously practising and rehearsing.
Resources should be allocated to facilitate nursing training on health economic models. An economic evaluation will enable them to accurately predict the impact of an intervention on patient outcomes and healthcare costs. Examples of these models include probabilistic and open-source models (Jones, 2023).
